Flooding

I took this photo over a year ago in the Bolivian village of Villa Alba, where I did much of my university research. While the collection of flood lines on the door may not catch your attention immediately, they're all that I see in this photo after speaking with the family that lives behind that door. Flooding devastates families and communities year after year in Bolivia, particularly in small, rural villages such as Villa Alba. My heart has broken with this and many other communities as they deal with loss of housing, livelihood, and even lives. I have mourned the illnesses of innocent children that spent too long in stagnant flood waters, and been sickened by the promises of help that never showed up. I could write for hours about this topic, but as they say, a photo is worth a thousand words.

Please take a minute to pause and pray for these and other families around the world this Christmas season. December marks the beginning of the rainy season, and potentially flooding, in Villa Alba and so many other communities. It's easy to get wrapped up in the hustle and bustle that is December without even considering what would truly honor Jesus on his Birthday. If you're looking for a last minute gift, consider donating to an organization such as Samaritan's Purse or Compassion International in someone´s honor. Or set aside a small slice of your Christmas budget for someone that is truly in need.
