Bittersweet

You probably remember that I wrote about the death of Mauricio's aunt and cousin almost two months ago. While the grief and sorrow haven't lessened much, we did a enjoy a day of celebration for Uncle Julián's Birthday!

His house was full of people all day long. Family members that came from other cities. Church members that stopped by with cake. And lots and lots of kids!

People were in and out the door all day.

I remembered to take a photo of the chapel,

and went ahead and photographed the chicken underfoot as well.

We spent time with some of Mauricio's many, many cousins,

And I spent time with sweet, little Clarita.

But her series of photos will have to be a post of its own.

It was a good day. There were smiles and laughter and hugs. And there were also tears and bittersweet memories. Towards the end of the day I was sitting at Uncle Julián's desk and noticed two things.

Each of the kids has a little half-coconut bowl for eating breakfast. Danielita's (the one that was killed in the accident) bowl was sitting there on his desk.

Bittersweet.

But right next to it, he had a verse that someone must have gifted him.

Philippians 4:13 - I can do everything through Christ who gives me strength.

Bittersweet.
